R&D Expenditure in Europe

The EU and many European countries have set their goals for research and development relative to the gross domestic product (GDP) to reach 3 %, some countries higher.

Gross domestic expenditure on R&D includes expenditure on research and development by business enterprises, higher education institutions, as well as government and private non-profit organisations.

In 2022, EU research and development expenditure relative to GDP stood at 2.24 %, lower than in the previous year when it recorded 2.27 %.
