Urban Sharing

In the ERC-funded Urban Sharing project (2018-2023), Oksana Mont critically assessed the sustainability impacts of sharing economy organisations, debunking the myth that such models inherently drive sustainability.

The Urban Sharing project found that sustainability outcomes depend on the design of business models and the governance frameworks implemented by local and national authorities. Thus, it advocated for nuanced, model-specific, and policy-driven approaches to foster the positive aspects of sharing economy while mitigating their negative externalities.

The project provided companies with critical tools for designing sustainability-focused business models and assessing sharing organisations› social impacts. It also equipped companies with strategies to maintain resilience amidst challenges, exemplified by the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, tools and frameworks developed by Mont and her team have enabled municipalities to influence the sharing economy strategically, ensuring it contributes positively to urban sustainability goals in mobility, housing, and asset sharing.
